What is pat testing?
Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is the inspection and testing of electrical appliances to make sure they are safe to use. While not a single named law, PAT is the recognised method of meeting duties under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998. Landlords (especially HMOs and furnished lets), employers, holiday lets, schools, salons and gyms all rely on PAT to evidence due diligence to insurers and licensing officers.
